What is Autoclave? Autoclave Definition
Autoclave is specially designed for the sterilization of medical equipment, Surgical instruments, laboratory instruments and other materials. Autoclaves uses high pressure steam to kill or remove microorganism, including, bacteria, viruses, and fungi from equipment’s to make them safe for use in hospital and laboratories.
Autoclave Uses
autoclave is used in different fields because of its sterilization capacity, Following are some common uses of the autoclave
- Medical Instrument Sterilization
- Laboratory Equipment Sterilization
- Pharmaceutical Sterilization
- Pharmaceutical Production
- Dental Practices
- Veterinary Practices
- Tattoo and Body Piercing Studios
- Waste Treatment
- Food Production and processing
- Research Application
- Cosmetic Production
Autoclave Pressure Range
Most of the autoclave pressure ranges from 15 to 30 PSI. Most industries use 15 PSI temperatures which correspond to a temperature of approximately 121°C. and at 30 PSI the steam temperature can rise up to 132°C
Working of Autoclave
here is the flow chart of the working of the autoclave
- Loading- The well-wrapped instruments, equipment, and other materials are placed in the chamber.
- Sealing the chamber – Tight all hooks to avoid any leakage of the steam from the autoclave
- Heating – At this state, the water gets heated using a heater like a copper heater which helps to create steam.
- Pressure Build-Up – At this step steam was generated and started to create pressure into the autoclave the pressure gauge started to show the generated stem pressure. The pressure rises from 15 to 30 PSI. Depending on your need you can maintain the pressure of the autoclave.
- Sterilization Phase – At this phase, you have to maintain the pressure of the autoclave for 15 to 30 minutes, during this time frame, steam penetrates all surfaces and kills all bacteria, viruses, and hazardous microorganisms.
- Pressure Release – After the time frame you can release the pressure of the autoclave in a controlled manner.
- Cooling and Unloading – Once the chamber is cool you can open it and unload the equipment with sanitized hands and use it.
Vertical Vs Horizontal Autoclave: Key Differences and Applications
A Vertical Loading Autoclave is a space-efficient sterilization device ideal for hospitals, laboratories, clinics, and research facilities. The autoclave machine is designed with a top-loading mechanism, This autoclave provides efficient sterilization for instruments, glassware, and laboratory materials. The autoclave machines are made from high-quality stainless steel to offer better durability and corrosion resistance. The vertical autoclave machines operate with high-pressure steam to eliminate bacteria, viruses, and contaminants, making it essential for maintaining hygiene and safety. It comes with a strong and user-friendly design and efficient performance.
Which autoclave is the best for Hospital, Clinics and laboratories
- You can choose a Vertical Autoclave if you have limited space, have less sterilization load, and want a cost-effective sterilization solution for your hospital
- You can choose a Horizontal Autoclave if you require higher capacity, frequent sterilization, and want easy loading process.
